The Brazilian is a Keratin based treatment which coats the surface of the hair making it feel smooth. It fills in all the ‘pits’ and ‘potholes’ in the hair that make it feel rough and dry. If you could see your hair under a microscope, it would look very coarse. After the treatment, the coarseness has gone. When you have your hair blow dried, the process of the brush through the hair smoothes those imperfections out leaving it feeling smooth. The Brazilian Blow Dry does this for up to 4 months.
Imagine your hair smooth, soft, in great condition. Hair in this condition becomes much easier to style than coarse, frizzy & damaged hair. After the Brazilian treatment your hair WILL NOT BE ‘GLASS’ STRAIGHT, but it will be much easier to manage. Most clients report that they are able to style their hair much more easily. It takes less time. In some cases, they do still need to use a hairdryer and sometimes the irons BUT it’s no longer hard work and a fight to get their hair smooth. It’s really easy. Clients that normally have their hair blow dryed professionally can achieve a similar feel, effortlessly.

The hair is not ‘lifeless’ after the treatment and retains its natural movement, curl and body unlike a chemical straightner. Curls will remain but USUALLY become softer and longer making them much easier to blowdry smooth when wanted or worn curly.

A chemical straightner is a fairly harsh chemical treatment which creates a brilliant, perfectly straight result on the right type of hair. It breaks down the bonds of the hair and re forms them ‘straight’. This treatment is great for strong, good condition hair but must never be used on chemically treated hair (hair that’s been coloured). The hair is too fragile and normally results in breakage and a very dry result.

The Brazilian IS NOT A CHEMICAL HAIR STRAIGHTNER. It does not reform the bonds of the hair, but smoothes over the surface for up to 4 months. The results should not be compared to a chemical straightner. Both have their unique benefits and are brilliant in their own right!

No. It will be softer, smoother and much easier to blow dry straight. Drying time will be reduced.
No, we do not sell this service as a straightner but as a smoothing treatment. Some clients have reported that their hair has become much straighter as a result of having the treatment but as we cannot guarantee the ‘straightness’, we prefer not to sell the service as a straightner. See the paragraph above titled ‘what are the benefits’
YES infact the more porous the better the results. Hair that’s coloured, dry, frizzy, course, damaged, over processed all see the best results. Some clients describe it as ‘Life Changing’ and their hair feels amazingly smooth.

Keratin Smoothing Treatment Aftercare

Once you’ve had a Brazilian Keratin treatment done, you need to take special care of your hair to make sure that the treatment will last as long as possible. Keratin treatments wash away gradually over time, but with proper care, the results of your keratin treatment can last up to 16 weeks.

Brazilian Keratin Treatment and Hair Colouring

If you colour your hair, you can do so immediately before a Brazilian Keratin Treatment without damaging your hair or reducing the efficiency of your colour or straightening treatment. However, you should wait at least two weeks after the treatment before colouring hair again.

Post Treatment Period

Avoid getting your hair wet for four days after the treatment has been applied. This means no washing, swimming, or sweating—and stay out of the rain. Make sure to give your hair time to blend with the keratin.

Leave your hair down and unstyled for the first few days after a Brazilian keratin treatment. The keratin is still malleable, so if you put your hair in a ponytail or use a hair clip, it can leave dents in your hair. If you want to tie your hair up, wait until four days after the treatment, to ensure all the treatment has been washed out.

You are not supposed to use any hair products during 4-day waiting period, and if your hair does become twisted you need to use a flat iron to smooth it out.

Styling after the Treatment

Blow-dry your hair after washing, but avoid using hair products after the first shampoo. You don’t need root lifting sprays, mousse, hairspray or gels to style your hair after a Brazilian Keratin Treatment. Keratin will keep your hair in the right style without the need for styling products. Chemical-free products can be used, but an overuse of styling products could make your hair look dull and dirty. Instead, blow dry and run a flat iron over the hair to manage your strands into the right style to extend the length of your Brazilian keratin treatment.

After Treatment Precautions

It is also a good idea to wash hair less often to maintain the look longer, because the results wash out gradually. Be wary of exposing your hair to high levels of chlorine or salt water, and always cover your hair during intervals of high UV levels, as these factors will reduce the life span of the treatment.

Wear a cap when swimming. The salt from the ocean and chlorine from swimming pools can wash out your Brazilian keratin treatment. If you won’t wear a cap, take a shower before you go swimming, soak your hair, and comb in conditioner. The water will help fill your porous strands to avoid chemical absorption, while the conditioner will add a level of protection.

Keratin Aftercare Shampoos

In the months following the treatment, select a shampoo and conditioning set that is free of sodium and sulphates. For maximum longevity, purchase a shampoo that is specially developed for keratin aftercare. The shampoo will complement the keratin straightening treatment and the results will last longer.

Deep Conditioning

Use a sulphate free deep conditioning masque at least once a month. Deep conditioning works to nurture hair and helps extend the duration of keratin treatments. Once the treatment began wearing off a deep conditioning mask helps prevent the effects of humidity, keeping the hair less frizzy, smoother, and easier to style.

Night time Care

Sleep on a silk pillowcase at night. Traditional cotton pillowcases can create friction and disrupt hair follicles as we move, making your hair frizzy and the treatment short-lived. By sleeping on a silky pad, you’ll avoid roughing the hair strands when you toss and turn at night. Silk creates very little irritation, which means a longer-lasting keratin straightening treatment.

Brazilian Keratin Treatment Reapplication

On average, a Brazilian keratin treatment should last upto 16 weeks. After that, your hair will return to its normal state, but it should be healthier and softer because of the conditioning impact of the keratin. Once the effects of the Brazilian keratin treatment have worn off, then you are free to have the treatment applied all over again. The repetition of the process on your hair tends to enhance the quality every time you get it done. The procedure will be done in the same way as it was previously.

Brazilian Keratin Post Treatment FAQ

Yes. Virgin coconut oil binds to the hair and can reduce keratin loss during wash cycles.

Yes. Pure Argan oil is safe to use on keratin treated hair. Be sure to use pure Argan oil with no added chemicals which can react with the keratin treated hair.

Olive oil is also completely safe to use on keratin treated hair, as it is natural. Just be aware that using any styling product can increase hair washing frequency.

You need to keep your hair straight during the first few days until the keratin treatment sets. Sleeping on your back on a satin pillowcase will keep your hair from messing up during the night. If sleeping/sweating causes a crease, blow-dry the hair and straighten it with a flat iron.

Traditional cotton pillowcases have a rougher texture that can create friction between the pillow and hair. Silk and satin create very little friction and extend life of keratin treatment.

Sea water and chlorinated pool water can strip the keratin from your hair quicker than fresh water.

Before swimming in a pool or ocean apply a Leave-in Conditioner as a protective barrier from the chlorine or salt water. Wearing a swimming cap can protect your hair from the chemicals and keep it dry.

If you don’t have a swimming cap or conditioner with you, thoroughly soak your hair in fresh water before swimming. Hair that is already saturated with clean water won’t be able to absorb much chlorine from the pool or ocean.

Rinse your hair immediately after any swim with warm, fresh water for 3 to 5 minutes.

You should have your hair coloured first and follow up with the keratin treatment. Wait at least two weeks to colour your hair after you have done the treatment. If you don’t wait the colour process will strip away some of the keratin.

The keratin procedure will lock in the colour, so it looks more natural and lasts longer. However, the treatment will slightly lighten the hair. To offset this you might want to colour your hair a half level darker than your desired results.

Leave your hair down and straight during 4-day period after the treatment has been done. After the 4-day period, you can style your hair in any style you want.

Not during 4-days waiting time to avoid kinking of the hair. Tying your hair after that time can leave some visible marks, which will go away when you wash your hair and blow-dry it.

You can still curl your hair with curling iron after receiving a keratin treatment. Just wait 3-4 days after you have done the treatment, and then curl it. Your curls would be loose, shiny and frizz free. Be sure to tell your stylist how would you like to wear your hair.

Do not apply any hair products during the four day development period. After the first wash you can use sodium, paraben and sulphate free styling products. Use styling products that are effective in small amounts to avoid frequent hair washing.

Use a sulphate free conditioning masque twice a month. Deep conditioning will improve your hair health and prolong the keratin treatment. Keratin post treatment sets usually include a deep conditioning mask. Argan Oil Deep Conditioning Mask is the conditioning product of choice if your hair is coloured or chemically treated.
